Consign with Us

How to Consign

Thank you for your interest in selling with Gateway Gallery Auction.  We are a consignment-based auction house, we do not buy objects or estates outright. Your goal as a consignor and our goal as your representative in the marketplace are the same: a transparent process with the best possible price. Based on photographs or firsthand evaluation, our auctioneers will provide information on the selling process, service options and current market trends.

Interested in consigning? Reach out to us through our contact page and provide some basic information about the object you are interested in consigning. Be sure to provide good overall photos of the object along with a brief description. Other useful information to consider including in your submission are the item’s dimensions, where the object was purchased, any history or provenance of the piece, if there is any damage, and if there are any labels, signatures or maker’s marks on the piece. If you have a large collection or estate, a few representative photos and descriptions will help us the most. Once your photos are received, we will review them and contact you within two weeks.

Auction Contract

Ready to move forward? You will be given a formal auction contract to sign which includes the consignor’s name, how the check needs to be made out, the address the settlement packet gets sent to, a list of objects to be sold, the commission rate and any packing, pickup or disposal fees.

Commission

The seller’s commission is a percentage of the sales price of the auction, otherwise known as hammer price. We do not charge up-front or hidden fees, and our commissions are inclusive of auctioneering, insurance, marketing, cataloging, photography and storage. Our commission differs based on the value and rarity of the objects you intend to consign. We always strive to keep commissions competitive, and we feel they reflect our quality and standard of service.

Handling and Transport

Our team is dedicated to the careful handling of your property. From packing to pick-up, we provide options to families who need a little extra help with this part of the process. We charge a standard hourly fee for staff and vehicles. Our staff is covered by worker’s compensation and once your objects are in our possession, whether in our vehicles or in our offices, they are fully covered by our insurance policy.

Payment

10 business days after an auction, you will be sent your settlement packet. This packet includes an itemized listing of the items you consigned and their hammer prices. The commission and any fees will be taken off the sale total. Included in the packet is your check for the net amount from the sale.
