SHIPPENSBURG—The estate of a local businessman and philanthropist will be sold in a two-day public auction May 20-21.

Jake Crider was the owner and founder of Crider’s Meats of Shippensburg, a local history buff, hunter and fisherman, a woodcarver and, most importantly, he and his wife were a generous part of the community.

This unique onsite sale “like the good old days” includes items that well represent Crider’s passions.

Day 1 will begin at 9 a.m. with outbuildings and lawn items followed by selling from the garage. Day 2 will begin with some general household followed shortly by vintage/collectibles. Guns/ammo will be sold at noon, followed by pony wagon and canoe. Furniture will be sold at 2 p.m.

How do I get there?

Due to bridge construction on McClay’s Mill Road, follow Route 533/Orrstown Road to Mongul Hill Road. Turn left on Mongul Hill Road and proceed 3 miles to Fernwood Drive. Turn left onto Fernwood and proceed approx. 1 mile to McClays Mill Road. Turn right and watch for sale sign or proceed via posted detour signs.

Where do I park?

Parking is available at Shippensburg Fish & Game, 4498 McClay’s Mill Road.

Is there an auction preview?

No. This is an on-site auction, so no preview of items is available.

Will there be food available?

Yes. A lunch stand will be available.

Can I bid online, by phone or absentee bid?

No. Because this is an onsite auction, there is no online bidding or phone bidding or absentee bidding.

What forms of payment will you accept?

We will accept cash or good check. NO CREDIT CARD SALES.

What else do I need to know?

Because this is an onsite auction, which does not include the benefits of a typical auction (online sales, remote bidding, etc), this sale does NOT include a buyer’s premium. In addition, in accordance with Pennsylvania Department of Revenue tax laws, there will be no sales tax charged at this onsite sale.
