Unique vintage Indian & Harley Davidson motorcycle items will be sold at our June 3rd auction. Included will be vintage advertising, assorted parts, accessories, handbooks & more all from the estate of Lloyd “Junior” Thompson.
Thompson’s father began selling Indian motorcycles in the early 1940s from their home on Scotland Avenue in Chambersburg. When Junior was young he modified a 1936 Indian and competed in local and regional motorcycle races. The whole family enjoyed riding, even Junior’s mother, Mary, and sister, Doris. The Thompsons later opened a Harley Davidson dealership in 1955 at 510 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg. (Information courtesy of Mike Marrotte III’s article)
The sale of about 200 lots will begin at 1 p.m. and include 1930s “Enthusiast” magazines, rider’s handbooks, vintage parts & price lists, shop window stickers, Gypsy Tour memorabilia, new/old stock parts, Harley pins and many special dealer’s items.
A notable item in the auction is an Indian dealer’s portfolio which includes (20) photos of Indian plant, Indian motorcycles, plus a photo of Col. Tin McCoy’s Assemblage, 1935 Rate Schedule & more.
Doors will open at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 3rd for preview prior to the 1 p.m. auction.
